They say nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd… Well that cliché may need to be reworked to accommodate world surfing’s newest star, because after the number of people that pitched up for a glimpse of the current ASP Number 2, the saying should now go: Nothing attracts a crowd like Jordy Smith.

The evening of Saturday 3 July saw the surfing superstar and O’Neill team rider hanging out in the O’Neill concept store at Gateway, Durban, signing autographs for the hundreds of fans that rocked up, and checking out the latest O’Neill gear on offer. As the store filled with the Durban faithful of all shapes, ages, colours and sizes, even Jordy seemed a tad overwhelmed by the number of people that had come to pay him homage.

Jordy is stoked to be spending some time back in his hometown after several months on the road shooting photos and videos, competing and fulfilling other responsibilities. True to form Jord has been racking up as much water time as possible while he’s back and is loving surfing in home waters again, especially at the height of the South African contest season. With a World Tour event and two WQSes scheduled over the next month – one of them being the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in Cape Town – Jordy will be around to keep his many adoring fans, and of course his friends and family, more than happy.

So if you’re amped to see Jordy while he’s back, we have some simple advice for you… just keep a look out for a large, star-struck crowd.
