FIGHTING FEAR
Mark is a Big Wave Surfer. He dreams of being the best.
Richie, Mark’s best mate shares his love of Big Wave Surfing but has his own ambitions.
A carpet layer by day, Richie dreams of becoming a MMA Cage-Fighting Champion.
Both are fearless, living life on the edge, daring each other to surf bigger waves, party harder, take greater risks.
But when their adrenalin-seeking antics & hardened partying turns sour, it sets in motion a dramatic and life-changing series of events that threatens to derail everything they have worked so hard for.
In an instant, Mark’s Big Wave surfing career is in tatters & Richie is facing a jail term.
But for these two friends, giving up is not an option.
It’s not the mistakes you make but how you overcome them.
Their unwavering friendship gives them the courage to battle their demons, rise up from their troubled past & conquer their fears.
One good friend can change your life.
This feature-length docu-drama, told through the eyes of the two friends, Pro-surfer Mark Mathews and MMA fighter Richie Vaculik and filmed over three years, provides a unique and candid insight into the tumultuous life of two world-class athletes facing against-all-odds personal challenges. This is the second feature film by exciting new Australian talent, Macario De Souza, co-director of BRA BOYS, the highest grossing Australian documentary (non-imax) of all time. Aged just 27, Macario not only wrote, directed, edited, shot and produced FIGHTING FEAR but as Kid Mac wrote and performed five songs on the soundtrack.
With a rip-roaring soundtrack and featuring entertaining & insightful interviews from some of the world’s most influential action sports athletes, including ten-time World Surfing Champion Kelly Slater, two- time World Surfing Champion Mick Fanning, Big Wave Surfer Bruce Irons, three-time Women’s World Surfing Champion Steph Gilmore & two-time UFC World Champion BJ Penn, FIGHTING FEAR is a jaw-dropping action-packed documentary that is surprisingly emotional, powerfully uplifting & utterly compelling.
FIGHTING FEAR is inspirational, heart-stopping entertainment.
Jordy and The Rodeo Flip
Sep 27th
Remember this? It happened a little while ago, and while so much has happened on the World Tour and in the world of surfing since then, it is still one remarkable single move. Surfers are doing Rodeo Flips more often these days and are pulling them off more frequently, but this is still one of the most amazing moves in the last 10 years of surfing.

Jordy at Bells
Apr 21st
The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach is always a popular event, and despite the weather and freezing water, there is always red-hot action going down on the long walls of the main wave, Bells Beach.
Jordy Smith loves the walls of Bells, and his 5th placing last year is testament to this. After a wave-starved first heat at the event, Jordy came to life in round two, defeating local wild card Adam Robertson. The event was moved down to the longer and faster walls of Winkipop, which is even more suited to the J-Bay expert, and he made quick work of his opponent.
The swell predictions are still looking good for the rest of the weekend and we might see a winner quite soon.
Free O’Neill Gooru Jacket.
Mar 29th
Its that time of the year again. The land breezes are just about to start puffing in the morning, the temperature are dropping slightly, and the windchill factor is starting to become a part of our surfing world.
O’Neill South Africa, and more specifically the O’Neill Concept Store in Gateway, Durban, have come up with a radical solution for the winter chills.
It’s pretty simple really. The day is divided into two main parts when you go surfing. The cold morning session, and then the much warmer later session when the sun is streaming down and the land breeze has backed off.
For the cold morning session you need the Gooru Shortsleeve Fullsuit. This suit is only R1999, but if you buy one during the month of April from the O’Neill Concept Store in Gateway you score a FREE GOORU JACKET valued at R899. That’s a pretty darn good deal, even if we say so ourselves.
